In every industry, specialized terminology is used to help explain concepts and information about that industry. For example, high-tech manuals and marketing collateral frequently employ proprietary vocabulary, such as in branded advertising or patented processes. Though this kind of terminology may help your company differentiate yours products and services from your competitors, it also creates a situation in which the meaning of these specialized terms can be misunderstood or lost entirely, without an understanding of the context in which the words are being used.
When translating a document containing such specialized terminology, it is vital that our translators understand the intended purpose and meaning of the words, so they can accurately translate the terms into target languages -- even if that means abandoning the branded verbiage for a matter-of-fact definition of the term.
To assist our translators in this process, we may ask you to provide us with a glossary of your proprietary vocabulary. The glossary can be as simple as a word processing file or spreadsheet containing a monolingual or bilingual list of terms and abbreviations with a basic description or definition of each term's meaning. Our linguists can then compose an accurate translation of the glossary and use it to maintain consistency in how the proprietary terms are translated throughought the target documents.
